Details of the application

The Canal and River Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to renew licence number TH/039/0038/004 which authorised the abstraction of water from The Grand Union Canal at Brentford, Middlesex at National Grid Reference TQ 16186 78301. The application also includes an upward increase in annual quantities from 20,000 cubic metres to 30,000 cubic metres.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 200 cubic metres a day

  • 30,000 cubic metres a year

  • Abstracting all year

Further details: The point of abstraction is located approximately 2 kilometres upstream of Syon Park Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is also within a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) and London’s Canals Local Wildlife Site. The abstraction lies within the Thames Catchment and Abstraction Licencing Strategy area.
