Information for women who were unable to have breast screening

Updated 2 March 2021

Breast screening services can use the text below as template information for women who are unable have breast screening at their appointment. Print this information out on paper including the trust logo, or use appropriate headed paper.

Why we could not screen you today

We are sorry we were not able to carry out your breast screening today. This was due to one or more of the following reasons, if you:

  • have implants or an implanted medical device (this requires a special way of screening)
  • have a physical disability, mobility issues, or are a wheelchair user (we can book you into a clinic with easier access to help you have screening)
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding (you must wait for 3 months after you give birth if you are bottle feeding, or 3 months after you finish breastfeeding before you have breast screening)
  • have had a mammogram within the last 6 months
  • have additional needs which mean you may need additional support

If we have told you we can make another appointment for you, please contact our breast screening office on (insert telephone number). When you phone, please let the member of staff know why we could not screen you today.
