This annual report analyses the updated 2016 dataset from the bioscience and health technology database. The data relates to companies that are active in the UK in the health life sciences sectors:

  • medical technology
  • bio-pharmaceuticals

This report shows that the UK life science industry:

  • employs 233,400 people across the UK
  • generates a combined estimated turnover of £64 billion
  • comprises 5,142 companies

Please note: On 4 August 2017 we published an unscheduled revision of the report and accompanying data, maps and infographics. This was to correct an error in the employment and turnover figures for one company in the medical technology service and supply sector. Please see the revisions note for further details.
