The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Veolia ES Landfill Limited.

Regulated facility type

The site is currently permitted as a non-hazardous waste landfill under a ‘Section 5.2 Part A(1) (a), the disposal of waste in a landfill activity.’

This application is for the addition of a ‘5.4 Part A(1)(b)(iii) treatment of slags and ashes for recovery’ activity to the permit. The activity will cover the treatment of Incinerator bottom ash (IBA) for recovery into Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA). The activity will be located on the active landfill.
