Behaviour and discipline in schools

Departmental advice for school leaders and school staff on developing a school behaviour policy.

This departmental advice (recommended by DfE but not required by law) is for school leaders and school staff.

It applies to all schools.

It explains the powers members of staff have to discipline pupils. It is for individual schools to develop their own best practice for managing behaviour in their school.

This advice is being reviewed in January 2015.

DfE has also produced ‘Getting the simple things right: Charlie Taylor’s behaviour checklists’.
