Who will collect and control your personal data

Defra will collect and control your personal data if you submit a nomination for a Bees’ Needs champion award.

What personal data Defra collects and how it is used

Defra collects:

  • details of your nomination so they can understand the work involved in each project and select the award winners
  • a contact name, email address and postal address for each entry, so they can contact you if your nomination wins an award

Lawful basis for processing your personal data

The lawful basis for processing your personal data is based on consent given by the individual at the time they choose to enter the competition and share their personal data.

Processing your personal data is based on consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing beesneeds@defra.gov.uk.

Who we share your personal data with

Defra does not share the personal data it collects under this privacy notice with other organisations.

Defra respects your personal privacy when it responds to access to information requests. Defra will only share information to meet the statutory requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

How long Defra holds personal data

Defra will keep your personal data until May 2025.

What happens if you do not provide your personal data

If you do not provide personal data, Defra will not be able to process your nomination for a Bees’ Needs champion award.

Automated decision-making or profiling

The personal data you provide is not used for:

  • automated decision-making (making a decision by automated means without any human involvement)
  • profiling (automated processing of personal data to evaluate certain things about an individual)
