1. Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Suez Recycling And Recovery UK Ltd.

Regulated facility type

The site currently operates a Household, Commercial and Industrial waste transfer station for the physical treatment including sorting, separating, shredding, bulking and transfer of non-hazardous waste. The application is seeking to add: • Section 5.4 A(1)(b)(i) - Recovery or a mix of recovery and disposal of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 75 tonnes per day (or 100 tonnes per day if the only waste treatment activity is anaerobic digestion) involving biological treatment. To enable the treatment of waste via anaerobic digestion. The facility will have an annual throughput of 100,000 tonnes per annum. • Two 1.2MW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engines to generate heat and electricity from the generated biogas. The application is seeking to remove from the permit: • The Glass Bulking Activity • The Plastics Physical Treatment Activity The proposed variation will change the nature of the facility from a waste operation to a waste installation. The HCI Waste Transfer Station will be retained.
