Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from Lake Windermere at National Grid References SD 39761 95277, SD 39457 94627, SD 39085 92769 and SD 38805 92175.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 30 cubic metres an hour
  • 317 cubic metres a day
  • 1593 cubic metres a year
  • between October 2018 and June 2019

The water will be used for hydraulic testing sections of a new rising main from the Glebe Road Pumping Station to Windermere Waste Water Treatment Works. The new rising main forms part of United Utilities’ wider scheme to improve the water quality in Lake Windermere. The licence is required until 30 June 2019.
