The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Kaug Refinery Services Limited.

Regulated facility type
The proposals are for a small-scale facility for the extraction of precious metals from metal containing wastes, with a maximum annual waste throughout of 250 tonnes/annum. The proposed operations are the same as those which have been undertaken for over 40 years by the applicant at their existing site in Birmingham, which have been regulated by the Environment Agency (EA) for over two decades under a waste Environmental Permit (EP) permit. The site will be permitted under EPR Schedule 1 Part 2, Section 2.2 Part A (1) (a) installation activity for the production of non-ferrous metals and include a waste treatment activity for the reception of waste containing precious metals. Air Quality and Noise impact assessments have been included in the application supporting information and modelling files can be provided on request.
