Details
On 9 April 2025, the department announced a package support to help eligible bodies to clear their audit backlogs and cover the additional cost of rebuilding audit assurance. The funding available compensates local bodies for reasonable additional audit costs associated with the rebuilding of assurance on audit opinions that are disclaimed primarily due to the statutory local backstops. Up to £18 million of this funding was allocated for 2024 to 2025 and is payable to eligible bodies in 2025 to 2026.
Details for the 2024 to 2025 allocations to eligible bodies can be found in the 2024 to 2025 ‘Audit build-back grant’ technical note. Initial payments were made on 26 and 27 June 2025. A further 28 payments were made on 17 and 19 December 2025.
If there are any queries or issues with these payments, please contact localaudit@communities.gov.uk.
