Immigration guidance for the Canton of Valais

Work permit applications

Work permit applications must be filed with the labour market authority via mail. The processing time is typically 8 to 10 weeks.

If you are:

  • transferring to the Swiss branch of a UK-based company
  • working a Swiss company on a Swiss employment contract
  • providing services to a client in Switzerland

Your employer will need to submit the online form (on the Valais Canton website). The form is only available in German.

The form asks for:

  • type of application
  • purpose of stay
  • personal details (family name, first name, date of birth, gender, place and country of birth, nationality, marital status, full Swiss address, correspondence address if different, foreign address, date of entry into Switzerland and canton, email, phone)
  • family details (mother’s and father’s names, spouse/partner details, children’s details: names, birth dates, nationality, residence country, gender)
  • employment details (company name, full address, job title, work location, start and end dates of guaranteed employment, contact person with phone and email)

In addition to the required form you will need to provide copies of your:

  • employment contract or letter of assignment
  • passport
  • criminal record
  • CV
  • relevant qualifications
