Immigration guidance for the Canton of Basel-Landschaft

Work permit applications

Work permit applications must be filed with the Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit Basel-Landschaft. The application can be filed online (on the Basel-Landschaft Canton website) or via email at auslbew.kiga@bl.ch. The processing time is typically 6 to 8 weeks.

Working for a Swiss branch of a UK based company

If you are transferring to the Swiss branch of a UK-based company, or working for a Swiss company on a Swiss employment contract, your employer will need to submit an SA91 form (on the Basel-Landschaft Canton website). This form is only available in German.

The form asks for:

  • personal information (first name and surname as per passport or ID card, date of birth, nationality, marital status)
  • parental information (father’s first name and surname, mother’s first name and surname)
  • current residential address (postal code, city, street, house number)
  • intended residential address in Switzerland (if already known)
  • professional background (trained or semi-skilled profession)
  • employment details (position, planned start date, type of contract (permanent or fixed-term with dates, full-time or part-time with percentage and weekly hours), work location if different from employer’s address)
  • salary details (offered base salary in CHF per month or per hour, allowances, payment frequency: 12 or 13 installments)

In addition to the required form, you will need to provide copies of your:

  • employment contract
  • passport
  • criminal record
  • CV
  • relevant qualifications

Providing services to a client in Switzerland

If you will be providing services to a client in Switzerland, your UK-based employer will need to submit an EN291 form (on the Basel-Landschaft Canton website). This form is available in English.

In addition to the required form you will need to provide copies of your:

  • letter of assignment
  • passport
  • criminal record
  • CV
  • relevant qualifications
