Animal transporters who do not currently hold type 1 authorisation which is valid for road journeys over 65km and up to 8 hours should complete the WIT1 form. This authorisation will be valid for 5 years.
Existing type 1 transporter authorisations are not automatically renewed and all applicants must reapply for authorisation. Animal transporters who currently hold a type 1 transporter authorisation which is due to expire should complete the WIT55 form and submit this for their authorisation to be renewed before their existing authorisation expiries.
Transporters who allow their previous type 1 transporter authorisation to lapse by more than 4 months will be classed as a new applicant and should complete the WIT1 form.
Only one application can be made per transporter. Any person or business may apply for authorisation but will be limited to one authorisation per individual or business.
A transporter is defined in Council Regulation 1/2005 as any person transporting animals on his own account or for a third party.
The forms can be submitted by post, email or fax. Emailed applications must be signed in Part 3.
If you need an electronic version of the forms to complete online, please email the Welfare in Transport Team at the Centre for International Trade in Carlisle email@example.com.
