Recognition conditions for AIM Awards

Published 19 August 2014

This decision was withdrawn on

The organisation has met the conditions and these have now been lifted.

Applies to England and Northern Ireland

1. Reasons for recognition conditions

On 6 August 2014, Ofqual granted AIM Awards’ (AIM) application for recognition in respect of English for Speakers of Other Languages (‘ESOL’) qualifications.

At the same time, Ofqual has decided to impose recognition conditions on AIM. This is because:

  • AIM has not previously offered regulated ESOL qualifications
  • AIM is proposing to deliver its new ESOL qualifications via a third party arrangement with another organisation
  • AIM’s processes and procedures have not yet been implemented and tested
  • Ofqual wants to make sure that AIM’s proposed new processes and procedures, including the arrangement with the other organisation, are working as intended.

2. Recognition conditions

AIM Awards’ recognition for the development, delivery and award of ESOL qualifications is subject to the following conditions.

A5.5 Within 28 days of recognition provide Ofqual with a copy of its implementation plan for the development delivery and award of ESOL qualifications and notify Ofqual within five days of any changes which are made to the plan within the first 6 months of being recognised for that description of qualification.
C2.6 At the same time as its submission of ESOL qualifications for accreditation provide Ofqual with a copy of its written instructions, guidance and/or written advice provided to its approved centres in respect of the criteria against which requests for Reasonable Adjustments and Special Consideration will be agreed and implemented within its centres.
E3.4 Provide at the submission of each ESOL qualification for accreditation, a full specification for that qualification in accordance with Conditions E3.2 and E3.3 together with samples of its proposed assessment materials for that qualification.

Ofqual will review these conditions on or before 26 January 2015
