Aggregate Industries UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from Spratford Stream (also known as Fenacre Water) near Westleigh, Devon at National Grid Reference (NGR) ST 07016 17746 to transfer it to the Grand Western Canal at NGR ST 07078 17750 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 84 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,000 cubic metres a day
  • 730,500 cubic metres a year
  • Abstraction will take place all year.

Aggregate Industries UK Limited has also applied for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of Spratford Stream near Westleigh, Devon at NGR ST 07017 17736 by means of a fixed thin plate weir. Water will be impounded to retain a head of water to enable the effective transfer of water from Spratford Stream at NGR ST 07016 17746 to the Grand Western Canal at NGR ST 07078 17750.
