Promotion of a medicinal product with no UK Marketing Authorisation for the indication of weight loss by Phlo Technologies Ltd t/a Phlo Clinic – July 2026
Published 5 August 2026
The MHRA became aware of an email sent to members of the public by Phlo Technologies Ltd, trading as Phlo Clinic. The email referred to GLP-1 medicinal products for weight loss that did not have a Marketing Authorisation (MA) when the email was issued.
After carefully reviewing the email, the MHRA considered that the email had promotional intent. In particular, it invited consumers to join a waitlist for “early access” to medicinal products and proactively drew attention to products that were not authorised at that time.
Regulation 279 of the Human Medicines Regulation 2012 prohibits the advertisement of a medicinal product that does not hold an MA. Creating consumer demand for a medicinal product by promotion of such a product before any UK regulatory appraisal for safety, quality and efficacy and subsequent authorisation has been completed is not permitted. A consultation with a healthcare professional is the most suitable way to determine the appropriate treatment option for an individual patient.
Phlo Technologies Ltd confirmed to the MHRA that the advertisement had been withdrawn and was no longer in use. The company also committed to full compliance with the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and MHRA published guidance.
