14 January 2015: promotion of Bronchostop

Published 14 April 2015

Johnson & Johnson complained about a television advert produced by Omega Pharma for Bronchostop, a traditional herbal medicine licensed based on their evidence that it has been used traditionally. The complainant was concerned that the advert misleadingly positioned Bronchostop as an equivalent identifiable medicines licensed on the basis of their efficacy data, which suggested that the efficacy of Bronchostop had been demonstrated.

MHRA upheld the complaint. Omega agreed to amend the advert to ensure it is clear that Bronchostop is a traditional herbal medicine and that the indication is based on traditional use only.
