     This guidance was previously called NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme: CST training handbook. It now includes guidance for the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Lead and reflects changes to the training and qualifications for clinical vascular scientists. Other changes: guidance added for candidates with overseas qualifications; reviewed description of CST and IQA lead training; new sign off sections for completion of training and info on attending annual CST/IQA lead study days and prompts for the trainers. Added clarification that publication was previously published by Public Health England.

This training guidance outlines the duties and requirements of a clinical skills trainer (CST) and internal quality assurance (IQA) lead to ensure that all AAA screening staff working in the NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme are adequately trained. It includes:

• pre-requisites for the role of CST/IQA lead

• role and responsibilities of a CST/IQA lead

• assessor qualification

• training of CSTs/IQA leads
