We received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, for the following information on the Home Office alcohol licensing consultation:
The total number of responses to the consultation, the breakdown of methods used to respond to the consultation and the type of respondent to the consultation.
We released the following information on 27 October 2010:
The Home Office received a total of 1,089 individual responses to the consultation. A breakdown of the methods used to respond to the consultation and the type of respondent is included below.

For the purposes of the analysis of consultation responses, the respondents were broadly categorised into one of the following four types:
i. Those involved in the alcohol industry, manufacturing, ‘on’ sales, ‘off’ sales, trade associations. For the purposes of this analysis - we have described this group as ‘trade;
ii. The ‘public’ - which includes individual members of the public and Residents Associations;
iii. Those involved in enforcement, policing, health or licensing - we have described this group as ‘licensing, enforcement & health’; or
iv. ‘Other’ respondents - which includes a breakdown of the total number of formal responses by respondent type is shown below:
