Publication scheme

The publication scheme specifies the categories of information that the CNC publish and how to get that information.

All public authorities are required to provide a publication scheme. The Publication Scheme is our way of making sure that information relating to certain categories, known as ‘information classes’, is routinely published.

In addition to the information that falls into these categories, the scheme also includes information that we have disclosed in response to freedom of information (FOI) requests.

Find out more below about how the Publication Scheme works and how to access the information we have published.

What is the Publication Scheme for?

The purpose of the Publication Scheme is to let you know what information is readily available about us and make it simple to obtain.

The scheme allows us to do two crucial things:

  1. Enable the public to understand what information we hold

  2. Make it easy to access the information, either directly or via an FOI request

By law the Publication Scheme must:

  • set out the classes of information which we publish or intend to publish

  • state how we will publish the information in each class

  • state if we will provide the information free or charge for it

How to access information

We routinely publish information here on our website, most of which will be available to download straight away. Occasionally, information listed will not be available electronically. In such cases we aim to supply this information within 20 working days of receiving your request.

Who we are and what we do

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) has a very exclusive role. Positioned between providing protection for civil licensed nuclear sites and safe-guarding nuclear materials, nuclear site operators, policing and nuclear regulators, as well interlinking with home office forces, the CNC has a policing responsibility with a difference.

How we make decisions

Objectives and performance targets for the Constabulary are agreed between the Chief Constable and the Authority and are reviewed on a regular basis at full Police Authority Meetings. These meetings are in effect the organisation’s ‘Executive Decision Meetings’ as they not only review objectives and targets but judgements are also made on policies, procedures and operational/business developments when it is believed such areas will have an impact on the organisation’s future performance.
