On 18 July 2012 Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd attended the UpRising graduation to celebrate the achievements of emerging young leaders aged 19-25 who have designed and delivered projects to tackle local issues in their communities in East London, Bedford and Birmingham.

Attending this year’s graduation, Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd said:

I applaud the hard work of all participants in the UpRising Leadership programme, in particular their commitment to their local communities.

UpRising is a unique social venture instilling in emerging leaders the importance of giving back to their communities. UpRising participants understand their communities and are well placed to find innovative local solutions to some of the most entrenched social issues facing our country today. UpRising helps emerging leaders realise they have the power and responsibility to create change in their communities.

UpRising is developing a new form of leadership, based on skill, integrity and an understanding of our communities, and with social action at its core.

Participants graduating from the programme go on to join UpRising’s Emerging Leaders Network to be formally launched in September 2012. The network will provide them with continuous development and support to take on powerful leadership positions in their local communities and to help bring about positive change.
