Update on Prime Minister telephone calls on Algeria

The Prime Minister spoke to his Algerian counterpart for a second time today to discuss the latest situation

A Downing Street spokesman said:

This afternoon the Prime Minister spoke to his Algerian counterpart for a second time today. They discussed the latest situation on the ground and the Algerian PM explained the situation remained ongoing. They both agreed to stay in close touch. The PM emphasised the continuing need for the Algerian security forces to do everything they could to safeguard hostages.

For information - the Prime Minister will be chairing a meeting of COBR tomorrow morning.
