The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the British Embassy Bangkok are supporting Thailand’s Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation and the Ministry of Energy to develop a Thai version of the UK 2050 Pathways Calculator. The UK 2050 Calculator is an interactive user-friendly tool that is designed to allow policy-makers to understand the emissions pathways implications of key policy decisions.

Developed by DECC, the 2050 Calculator will allow non-experts to develop their own combination of levels for change in different technologies and sectors of economy to explore different energy and emissions scenarios out to the year 2050.

The 2050 Pathways Calculator has a technical energy balancing model which has been extensively reviewed by experts to bring together sectoral trajectories in different ways to construct possible pathways to 2050.

Thailand is the first country in the Southeast Asian region to start the project since October 2013. Recently, DECC has supported a group of 7 government officials from the Thailand team to attend a technical training and learn how to develop a web tool with experts in UK. The project is planned to be complete and launched later in 2014.
