UK Minister for Middle East Alistair Burt visited Sderot this afternoon after spending day in Gaza

In Sderot he met Mayor David Buskila and visited a reinforced playground packed with children on their summer break.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Visiting Sderot today Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, said:

“Sderot has become a name synonymous with the pain and futility of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. For eight long years residents have lived with just 15 seconds from the sounding of an alarm to seek refuge from rockets fired from Gaza. Children have been forced to play in centres specially reinforced to protect them. And people have wondered why.

There is no more compelling reason for Israeli and Palestinian leaders to resume negotiations and ensure a lasting peace that allows the people of Sderot and Gaza to live in peace.”
