Two Trustees’ terms extended on the National Lottery Heritage Fund Board
Mukesh Sharma's term as a Trustee of The National Lottery Heritage Fund has been extended by four months and James Twining's term by six months. These extensions were made by the previous Prime Minister.
Mukesh Sharma’s second term has been extended by 4 months, commencing from 30 August 2026 to 29 December 2026. James Twining’s first term has been extended by 6 months, commencing from 30 November 2026 to 29 May 2027.
Mukesh Sharma OBE DL
Mukesh Sharma has extensive experience in business growth, acquisitions, organisational change and international partnerships. He was appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the County Borough of Belfast in 2016 and in the same year was awarded an MBE for services to the travel industry in Northern Ireland.
Mukesh serves on the boards of several charities, including Barnardo’s, ArtsEkta, the Goliath Trust and The King’s Trust. He has also served on the Northern Ireland Executive Commission on Flags, Identity, Culture and Tradition and the Cabinet Office Contested Heritage Advisory Board.
He was awarded an OBE in The King’s Birthday Honours 2026 for services to heritage.
James Twining
James Twining is Chair and Chief Executive of Wren Sterling, a national independent financial advice firm, and Chief Executive of its fund management subsidiary, Magnus. He has over 30 years’ experience in financial services, including senior roles at SBC Warburg, McKinsey & Co., Jardine Lloyd Thompson and the Kingsbridge Group.
He is also a Governor of Merchant Taylors’ School and a Director of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club. He was previously a founding Trustee and Vice Chair of the English Heritage Trust, where he chaired the Investment and Fundraising Committees and currently chairs the Audit and Risk Committee of The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Remuneration and Governance Code
The Audit and Risk Committee Chair role is remunerated at £13,500 per annum. The Northern Ireland Trustee role is remunerated at £20,749 per annum.
This appointment has been made in accordance with the Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments. The appointments process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Under the Code, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, or candidature for election.
James Twining and Mukesh Sharma have declared no such political activity.
