The British government totally condemns the appalling rise in hate crime. We have a proud history as a multi-cultural society and that will continue.
The police have rightly said they will respond robustly and offenders can expect tough sentences for these crimes.
The British government will also step up our response – our action includes new steps to boost reporting of hate crime and support victims; new Crown Prosecution Service guidance to prosecutors on racially aggravated crime; a new fund for protective security measures at potentially vulnerable institutions; and additional funding to community organisations tackling hate crime.
