Commenting on the Syrian National Coalition’s appointment of an interim Prime Minister, the Foreign Secretary, William Hague said:

I congratulate Mr Ghassan Hitto on his appointment by the Syrian National Coalition as interim Syrian Prime Minister. We encourage Prime Minister Hitto and the Coalition to increase links with Syrians across the country, deliver aid and assistance, produce a transition plan and take forward National Coalition policy on a negotiated solution following up President al-Khatib’s initiative.

The UK recognises the Coalition as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people and will continue to be in the forefront of international efforts to secure a political transition that ends the conflict and reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people.
