Sir Charlie Mayfield has been reappointed to the board of the British Museum

The Prime Minister has reappointed Sir Charlie Mayfield as a Trustee of the British Museum for a four year term from 1 June 2022 until 31 May 2026.

Sir Charlie is chairman of QA Ltd and of Be the Business. Until 2020 he was Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, having previously served as Managing Director of John Lewis. Previously he worked for McKinsey & Co and SmithKline Beecham and was an officer in the army. He holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management.

Trustees of the British Museum are not remunerated. These reappointments have been made in accordance with the Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments . The process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. The Government’s Governance Code requires that any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years is declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation or candidature for election. Sir Charlie Mayfield has declared no activity.
