Press briefing: afternoon 11 September 2014

The Prime Minister's Spokesperson answered questions on ISIL and Scotland.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

ISIL

When asked about the Foreign Secretary’s earlier comments on air strikes in Syria, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson (PMS) said the point was made in reference to Parliament’s decision last year on air strikes against the Assad regime. The PMS explained that with regard to ISIL, we had a group that operated beyond recognised borders and that the international community needed to take a comprehensive approach. He added that with regard to air power, we were not at the stage of taking specific decisions but the Prime Minister had not ruled anything out.

Scotland

Asked about the First Minister of Scotland’s letter to the Cabinet Secretary and Prime Minister for an inquiry into the Treasury’s disclosure of sensitive financial information, the PMS said that the correspondence would be dealt with in the usual way, noting that various financial institutions had already set out their position in the media and that Treasury colleagues had explained their approach, but would be happy to help press colleagues with further questions.
