The Prime Minister met President Izetbegovic of Bosnia and Herzegovina today at Downing Street, ahead of a reception to mark the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. The President thanked the Prime Minister for the UK’s support in raising awareness of Srebrenica. They agreed that it was important to recognise atrocities committed against all people in Bosnian and Herzegovina, and for political leaders to promote reconciliation between communities.
The Prime Minister and President also discussed Bosnia’s reform agenda, as it continues to work towards eventual EU accession. They discussed the need to ensure that institutions operated in a professional and politically neutral way. Finally, they discussed Bosnia’s aspirations for NATO Membership and how best they could be supported.
