Highways England contractors are creating an extra lane along the A1 in both directions between the Coal House junction and the Metro Centre junction as part of a £61 million scheme.

The traffic management on the southbound carriageway will be repositioned between Saturday 3 October and Thursday 8 October and Saturday 10 October and Thursday 15 October. There will be no overnight closure on Friday 9 October to avoid disruption to the evening Rugby World Cup game at St James’ Park.

The carriageway will be closed in both directions between 8pm and 6am. Clearly signed diversions will be in place along Kingsway.
