Drivers are advised that the A1 northbound carriageway at Birtley, Tyne and Wear, will be closed overnight for three weeks for survey work.
The work which is due to start on 6 July and be completed by 25 July, will mean a closure of the northbound carriageway between junction 65 Birtley and junction 66 Eighton Lodge between 9pm and 6am. For the safety of roadworkers, lanes 1 and 2 on the A1(M) approaching junction 65 will also be closed, together with lane 2 on the A1 southbound carriageway between junction 66 and junction 65.
Traffic will be diverted off the northbound A1(M) at junction 65 and on to the A194(M) where it will exit the motorway at Havannah Interchange. Traffic will then travel on the B1322 and A1231 to the A167 northbound where vehicles can rejoin the A1 nothbound via junction 66 at Eighton Lodge Interchange.
