Nowruz 2016: Prime Minister's message

As millions of people in Britain and around the world celebrate Nowruz today, the Prime Minister sends his warmest wishes for the year ahead.

Prime Minister David Cameron said:

To those Iranian communities marking the ‘new day’ and the start of spring here in the UK, I want to thank you for the contribution you make to our country.

From education and business to the arts and public services, you help to make Britain great.

And as you reflect on the fundamental values of Nowruz – peace, solidarity and reconciliation – know that it is in the spirit of those values that the UK and Iran have taken important steps to develop our relationship over the past 12 months.

We have reopened our embassies and implemented a historic nuclear deal.

And both President Rouhani and I are committed to building on these ties for the benefit of us all.

For families and friends coming together to observe this important festival, this is a time both to reflect on the past year and to look forward to what lies ahead in 1395.

Wherever you are in the world celebrating Nowruz, I wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful new year.

Har ruzetan Nowruz, Nowruzetan piruz.
