NHS 111 rollout deadline extension decision

A letter explains the rationale behind the Secretary of State’s decision to extend the roll out deadline for NHS 111.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

An extension of up to six months of the original April 2013 deadline may be necessary in some cases. It invites Clinical Commissioning Groups to apply for an extension where necessary.

The NHS 111 rollout deadline extension will be by application to an expert clinical panel, and should not delay roll-out in those areas that are ready to move ahead. It will help ensure in those areas that need it, time can be taken fully to engage local clinicians and build delivery models for NHS 111. The clinical panel will publish the criteria that it will judge applications on shortly.
