New Ofcom Chair Appointed

Culture Secretary Maria Miller appoints Dame Patricia Hodgson

Dame Patricia Hodgson has been appointed the new Ofcom Chair, Culture Secretary Maria Miller announced today.

Dame Patricia was selected as the Government’s preferred candidate for the position and then appeared before the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee for a pre-appointment hearing.

The Select Committee recommended that Dame Patricia, who is currently the Ofcom Deputy Chair, should succeed the current Chair Colette Bowe and the Culture Secretary today confirmed the appointment.

Maria Miller said:

I am delighted to appoint Dame Patricia and know she will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organisation in her role as Chair.

Her time as Deputy Chair means she has a thorough understanding of the communications industry and the challenges facing Ofcom.
