New Non-Executive appointed

Mr Graham Williams, a former PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) partner, has been appointed as a Non-Executive Member of the Defence Board and Chair of the Audit Committee by Defence Secretary Philip Hammond.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Mr Williams’ appointment will help to balance the levels of executive and non-executive Defence Board membership in line with the best practice recommended by the Cabinet Office.

Mr Williams has over 30 years’ experience with PwC, 20 of those as a partner. He worked as the Managing Partner for Regions Assurance and also acted as the Chief Operating Officer - Strategy and Change.

He has also worked with some of the UK’s largest organisations across the public and commercial sectors.

Mr Williams represented the PwC Partner Group as an elected member of their Supervisory Board. He was also a member of the Board’s Audit Committee.

Mr Hammond said:

I am delighted to welcome Graham to this appointment. I am sure that the skills, knowledge and experience he has developed in the private sector will enable him to make a valuable contribution to the Department’s business.

Mr Williams said:

I’m delighted to be appointed as a Non-Executive Member of the Defence Board and Chair of the Audit Committee. I recognise some of the tough challenges the MOD is facing and I want to use my energy, insights and skills to add value where I can.
