Minister for Europe visit to Azerbaijan

David Lidington, MP, the UK Minister of State for Europe paid an official visit to Azerbaijan on 20-22 October 2010.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

He was accompanied by a delegation of British businesses.

The Minister met with a number of key figures in the Government of Azerbaijan, including the President HE Mr. Ilham Aliyev, as well as the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Economic Development, and Transport. He also met key figures in leading Azerbaijani businesses.

Mr Lidington gave the speech at the Azerbaijan University of Languages on Azerbaijan and its role in Europe, followed by a question and answer session with a group of students.

The Minister used his visit to further our strong bilateral relations and to bring British and Azerbaijani business people together to find new opportunities to support prosperity in both countries. Ahead of his first official visit to Azerbaijan, the Minister said: “Although it will be my first visit to Azerbaijan, I am aware that relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom go back a long way and I am looking forward to building on this strong relationship in the years to come.”
