Minister for Africa meets President of the Republic of Malawi

Minister for Africa Mark Simmonds met the President of the Republic of Malawi, Her Excellency Joyce Banda today.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

They discussed a range of issues including the bilateral relationship and regional issues in Southern Africa.

Speaking after the meeting the Minister for Africa said:

“I was delighted to welcome President Banda to London. We discussed the importance of strong relations between the UK and Malawi, and particularly how we can work together to boost economic ties. I am pleased that our new High Commissioner to Malawi, Michael Nevin, has arrived in Lilongwe and has already held substantive discussions with Her Excellency the President. President Banda also spoke of her recent discussions with President Kikwete of Tanzania over the boundaries of the lake which borders Malawi and Tanzania. I urge both leaders to resolve the dispute peacefully.”
