Planning Portal

Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis today (26 March 2015) announced that the Department for Communities and Local Government has entered into a joint venture with TerraQuest.

A new company, PortalPlanQuest Limited has been set up to run the Planning Portal as a joint venture between DCLG and TerraQuest.

Mr Lewis said that the move would increase investment in the portal and ensure it continues to deliver a high quality service for years to come.

Supporting growth

The Planning Portal is a one-stop shop for processing planning applications, with nearly 90% of applications in England and Wales now going through that system.

The government announced earlier this year that TerraQuest was the preferred bidder to form a new company with the government to take on the management and delivery of the Planning Portal. This announcement followed a competitive tendering process.

The current Planning Portal website will remain in place while PortalPlanQuest develop their new service.

Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis said:

I am excited that today we have formed a joint venture with TerraQuest to take over the running of the Planning Portal and build the business further.

With nearly 90% of planning applications being submitted through the Planning Portal, it was vital to secure investment to allow the Portal to reach its full potential and continue to play a vital role in the planning system for years to come. I know that PortalPlanQuest will be looking to take an innovative approach, building an up-to-date website, and developing new products alongside the core planning application service. I’m looking forward to seeing where they take the Portal in the future.

Geoff Keal, Managing Director of TerraQuest and PortalPlanQuest, said:

We are looking forward to taking the Portal to the next level, supporting the planning system and economic growth by making it even easier to submit planning applications online.
