International Standards of Freedom of Religion and Belief
Workshop for youth on International Standards of Freedom of Religion and Belief was held in Atyrau on 5 October.
This workshop for youth was held with the support of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan, the event was dedicated to the issues of strengthening freedom of religion and belief at the Republic of Kazakhstan. The co-organisers included: Public Association “Astana Centre Consulting”, Department of Youth Policy of the Atyrau region, “Youth” Scientific and Research Centre and “Tara” Public Association. “Strengthening Religious Freedom in Kazakhstan” project is being held by Public Association “Astana Centre Consulting” with the support of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan. This is the second year of the project implementation.
During the training session the trainers: Alibek Kimanov, Head of Research Division of the Islamic Research and Analytical Center of the Agency for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Aliya Duganova, Public Association “Astana Centre Consulting”, considered the issues of internal and external religious freedom, secular state principles, state-confessional relationship model, terminology used in this area, issues of legislation application in this area. The theme of workshop raised a considerable interest among participants. During the discussion recommendations were made on spiritual and moral education of youth, on raising awareness, on the issues of religious freedom, especially in the rural areas. It was also noted that religious freedom is performed along with securing other human rights: right to life, human dignity, freedom of movement, freedom of thought and speech, health, education, property, and culture. Some of the participants shared their plans to hold similar workshops at their own organisations to use the knowledge received at the workshop.
