The signing of an agreement with Hitachi and Horizon to support the development of a new nuclear power station at Wylfa Newydd on Anglesey is a strong signal of the Government’s commitment to new nuclear.

The UK Government has today announced that it has signed an agreement with Hitachi and Horizon to support the financing of the development of a new nuclear power station at Wylfa through a UK guarantee, subject to final due diligence and ministerial approval.

Secretary of State for Wales, David Jones MP said:

“The publication of the National Infrastructure Plan today demonstrates that this Government is delivering for Wales – improving Wales’s infrastructure networks and providing certainty for companies looking to invest in Wales.

“Following our announcement in October on Hinkley Point, today’s announcement demonstrates this Government’s ongoing, steadfast commitment to new nuclear in the UK, and in supporting Hitachi’s investment in Wylfa Newydd.

“Their investment will bring significant benefits to the economy in Wales, particularly on Anglesey, through supply chain opportunities and much needed high-quality employment.”
