HM Treasury appointment

Following an external competition process, Sharon White has been appointed Director General, Public Spending in HM Treasury.

Following an external competition process, Sharon White has been appointed Director General, Public Spending in HM Treasury.

Sharon White is currently leading a review into HM Treasury’s management of the Financial Crisis in 2007-2009 and its aftermath, based in HM Treasury.

The appointment will begin in the New Year.

  1. Sharon White is currently leading a review into HM Treasury’s handling of the Financial Crisis in 2007-2009 and its aftermath. Previously, she was Director General at the Ministry of Justice, from 2009-2011, including a period on secondment to the Department for International Development as Director General, Middle East and North Africa. From 2003 to 2009 she was first Director of Policy at the Department for International Development and then Director of Welfare to Work in the Department for Work and Pensions. Prior to that she held a range of positions in HM Treasury, as well as in the Downing Street Policy Unit and the World Bank.

  2. This appointment followed an external competition, chaired by a Civil Service Commissioner.
