The Foreign Secretary will meet President Nicos Anastasiades, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci. He will meet with the UN Chief of Mission Lisa M. Buttenheim, visit the UN Committee on Missing Persons laboratory and meet with the UN Special Adviser to the Secretary General Espen Barth Eide. The Foreign Secretary last visited in July 2015.

Under the UN-facilitated Cyprus settlement talks the leaders of the two communities have met regularly and made good progress. Thanks to their efforts, a historic agreement is within reach.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said:

There is a real opportunity to secure a just and lasting settlement in Cyprus. The island has been divided for too long. Under the courageous leadership of President Anastasiades and Mr Akinci, I believe there is a chance to finally resolve the situation.

As a Guarantor Power the UK is a strong supporter of the efforts to reunite Cyprus and we will do whatever we can to help.
