Foreign Secretary supports invitation to Iran to talks

Foreign Secretary William Hague welcomes Baroness Ashton's invitation to Iran to talks on its nuclear programme

The Foreign Secretary supported Baroness Ashton’s invitation to Iran to talks on its nuclear programme with the US, UK, Russia, China, France and Germany (the “E3+3”) in Vienna in mid-November.

He said: “The UK fully supports this invitation. We hope Iran will now respond quickly and directly to the specific timing proposed by Baroness Ashton. Baroness Ashton’s invitation is the latest in a long series of good faith offers to negotiate.

“We need to see Iran turn its expressed willingness to talk into concrete discussions and steps to address the world’s concern about its nuclear programme.”
