Foreign Secretary confirms British journalist's arrival in Lebanon

Foreign Secretary William Hague confirmed British journalist Paul Conroy is safely in Lebanon when he updated the House of Commons on 28 February.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The British journalist was injured while reporting from Homs in Syria. Sunday Times journalist Marie Colvin was killed in the attack last week.

The Foreign Secretary said:

“The thoughts of much of the nation have been with the family and friends of Marie Colvin. I am happy to confirm though that the injured British journalist Paul Conroy is safely in Lebanon where he is receiving full consular assistance.

“I pay tribute to journalists who ensure that the world is aware of the crimes that are now being committed, something that we are determined to document and seek justice for. Too many people have already lost their lives in Homs and elsewhere in Syria, and we again urge the Syrian regime to ensure an end to the violence against civilians and access for humanitarian agencies.”
