Foreign Secretary appalled by news of explosion at Boston Marathon

The Foreign Secretary William Hague said: "My thoughts are with everyone affected by it and all those waiting for news".

The Foreign Office is in touch with US authorities following the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

The UK Ambassador to the United States, Peter Westmacott said:

Awful news of explosions in Boston. Thoughts are with those injured or killed, and their families. Our team in touch with the Massachusetts authorities.
