Foreign Office Minister welcomes Ratko Mladic’s transfer to the Hague

Minister for Europe David Lidington said this is an "important day for all those who suffered and lost loved ones during the terrible conflicts of the 1990s".

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

“I very much welcome the news that Ratko Mladic has today been transferred to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague. This is an important day for all those who suffered and lost loved ones during the terrible conflicts of the 1990s.

This transfer is further evidence of the Serbian authorities’ commitment to co-operation with the Tribunal. Ratko Mladic stands accused of appalling crimes, and it is right that the charges against him are now heard in full before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. The UK has long been and will continue to be one of the strongest supporters of the ICTY.”

“We have always been clear that there can be no hiding from justice for those accused of the most serious of crimes.”
