Foreign Office Minister extends condolences to family and friends of those killed and injured in bomb blasts in Basra and Baghdad

Commenting on the recent bomb attacks in Basra and Baghdad, Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt gave a statement.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Minister said:

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the bomb blasts in Basra and in Baghdad last week and today which killed and maimed so many innocent Iraqis. Among those who lost their lives last Thursday were three senior police and army commanders who have led the re-establishment of law and order in Basra: Brigadier General Qais of 53rd Brigade, Brigadier General Mottar of the Provincial Joint Command Centre and Brigadier General Adel Ahmed Mohammed, the Deputy Chief of Police. All tragically died while helping survivors of the initial explosion. I send my deepest condolences to all those who lost loved ones or were injured. The British Government utterly condemns these horrific attacks and hopes that the perpetrators of these crimes are brought to justice swiftly.”
