Foreign Office Minister expresses concern about Ethiopia’s incursion into Eritrea

FCO Minister for Africa, Henry Bellingham, has urged Ethiopia and Eritrea to avoid actions that might “create tensions” or “lead to an escalation of violence”.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Henry Bellingham said:

“I am deeply concerned about Ethiopia’s incursion into Eritrea on 15 March. Such action risks exacerbating tensions between the two countries and cuts across wider efforts to develop security and stability across the Horn of Africa. Conflict is in neither country’s interest. We urge both sides to adhere to the principles of international law and to avoid all actions that could create tensions and lead to an escalation in violence.”
