Foreign Office Minister condemns bomb attacks in Syria

Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt said that he remains deeply worried about the situation in Syria following bomb attacks in central Damascus on 23 December.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking today the Foreign Office Minister said:

“I condemn the bomb attacks in central Damascus today and regret the loss of life and injury I have heard reported. I remain deeply worried about the situation in Syria and about anything which further enflames this. There needs to be an immediate end to the violence in Syria for the sake of the Syrian people. There has already been too much death and suffering in Syria.

“We continue to condemn the failure of the Assad regime to heed the call of regional states and the international community to stop the violence against peaceful protestors. We reiterate our call for an immediate end to the violence, for free unfettered access for Arab League monitors and the media to document the situation on the ground. It remains vital that the commitments made by the Syrian authorities to the Arab League are followed through fully and rapidly. “
